So, I have GraphJam on my reader list, but rarely look at it, so there’s nearly 200 posts to mark as read now. But I came across this linked one, and was moved to comment, and it’s got me thinking.

Needless to say, the comment thread can be divided into veg*ans posting to say “Hells, yes!”, meat-eaters saying “But it’s natural to eat meat!” and one veggie who thinks the rest of us are so sanctimonious that they’re off to McDonalds for a Whopper, or whatever it is.

Yes. Humans evolved while eating other animals. (Special mention for the commentor who says that if evolution were true, monkeys would be humans now - though I hope that that was someone taking the piss.) The increased brain volume and power has been linked to eating fish. That was, of course, before humans overcrowded the planet and started pumping all sorts of toxic waste into the seas, thereby rendering a lot of fish unsafe for human consumption. Bio-accumulation. Google it.

We can get the proteins we need from plant sources; we know this now. There’s a fair few vegans out there who basically eat crisps all the time (I have been known to, occasionally, who hormonal or feeling low.) so it doesn’t necessarily mean automatically healthy. And meat substitute products? Meh. I don’t like them that much because they’re very processed, but it’s protein in an easy-to-handle form. Meat-eaters eat meat in the same forms, if they’re going to whine about veggie sausages maybe they should just take the side of cow from the butcher and eat it like that?

But the thing that really annoys me is the suggestion that we veg*ans go around announcing it to the world; everybody we meet, every time we speak to someone. ‘Forcing it down [people’s] throats’.

An American fast food chain (Denny’s?) just created the bacon sundae. Blizzard included a daily cooking quest in World of Warcraft called ‘Bacon Makes Everything Better’. GraphJam’s url for this chart it basically ‘Mm Bacon’. The bacon meme that’s been going in the interwebs for about a year or so now, basically, and is evidently spreading offline too.

Who’s forcing what down who’s throats, now?
